Known Issue - High Video Jitter Stats in Chrome 90 - 93

Jamie Slater

Issue

We have received numerous reports of high jitter values on inbound video.

This issue has been identified as a bug in versions 90, 91, 92 and 93 of Chrome and Chromium-based browsers. It is the reported video jitter stat that is incorrect, not jitter itself.

You can find the bug reported in detail here: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/webrtc/issues/detail?id=12980

Workaround

You can work around this issue by dividing the stats by 90.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in Chrome 94.

The above workaround will be implemented in the LiveSwitch SDK to compensate for the incorrectly reported jitter stat:
LiveSwitch v.1.13.1 - Chrome 90, 91, and 92.
LiveSwitch v1.14.0 - Chrome 93.

The fix for this was merged on July 28th, 2021: https://webrtc.googlesource.com/src/+/61bd5d9c1c05f24044918f538b95646e9523c167%5E%21/#F0
